Short answer
An AI sourcing tool supports search, AI evaluation and outreach, with your team setting criteria and reviewing results. A traditional tech recruiter does the screening and the closing, usually for 15-25% of first-year salary. An AI recruiting agency sits in between: it uses AI to source and rank candidates against your hiring bar and hands you a shortlist to interview, for a fixed fee. Pick by who you want doing the first evaluation, and by how many engineers you hire a year.
The three models
AI sourcing tools
Tools such as Juicebox, Pin and hireEZ offer AI search, candidate evaluation and outreach features. Pin includes AI fit scoring and multi-channel outreach; Juicebox includes AI match explanations and email outreach, with autonomous agents as an add-on. Your team configures the workflow, reviews results and makes hiring decisions.
Selected paid plans, checked October 1, 2026 (USD): Pin Solo is $99 per user per month, billed annually only. Juicebox Starter is $119 per seat on monthly billing or $99 per seat per month on annual billing; Growth is $199 monthly or $179 per seat per month annually. Juicebox Agents cost an additional $199 per agent per month. These vendors also offer free plans with limits. Check the linked pages for current credits, features and billing commitments.
hireEZ lists a solo starting price of $494 per month without a stated billing commitment on that page; enterprise pricing depends on the package. This is a selected-plan comparison, not a price range for the entire category.
Traditional tech recruiting agencies
A recruiter finds candidates, screens them, runs part of the process and helps close. US tech recruiters typically charge 15-25% of first-year salary on contingency, which is $22,500-37,500 on a $150,000 engineer (Dover). Agencies in the CIS IT market quote 15-20%, up to 30% for rare roles (Lucky Hunter). You pay mainly on success, and the fee grows with the salary.
AI recruiting agencies
A service, not a tool. The agency uses AI to gather and filter the market, ranks the people who clear your hard requirements, and a person checks the result before you see it. You receive named, contactable candidates with reasons and flags, and your team interviews them. Pricing is usually a fixed fee per role instead of a percentage.

A worked cost example
Take a remote senior backend engineer hired from Serbia. Arc puts the average senior developer salary there at $76,444 a year (Arc).
- Traditional agency at 20%: about $15,300 (our calculation from the Arc figure).
- AI sourcing tool: Pin Solo costs $1,188 per user for an annual commitment ($99 × 12). Juicebox Starter costs $119 per seat on monthly billing. Add any selected extras and your team's review time.
- Ranked.I: $4,500 for a backend shortlist ($6,000 for ML/LLM roles). Interviews stay with you.
For a US engineer at $150,000, the agency fee at 15-25% becomes $22,500-37,500, while a fixed-fee shortlist stays the same. The gap grows with the salary.
Which one to choose
- Choose an AI sourcing tool if you have an in-house recruiter with spare hours and you hire engineers every month.
- Choose a traditional agency if the role is rare or very senior and you want someone to run the process and close the candidate for you.
- Choose an AI recruiting agency if you hire a handful of engineers a year, want a checked list to interview this week, and would rather pay a fixed fee than a percentage of salary.
How Ranked.I measures its accuracy
The client's engineers rate a sample of candidates, and we compare our ranking with their ratings on the same people. On a live Java and Kotlin search our ranking agreed with the client 84% of the time (89% on a held-out sample). On a credit-risk data science search it agreed 72% of the time (84% held out, Cohen's kappa 0.80). In plain terms, the ranking agrees with an experienced hiring manager about as often as two senior engineers agree with each other.
On that Java search, 1,294 profiles were gathered, 871 were unique people, 110 cleared every hard requirement, and 40 were ranked and delivered. Read the full method, compare flat fee and commission fees, or see how the service works.
